Years ago I read through Tom Weaver, Michael & John Brunas' UNIVERSAL HORRORS -- a definitive chronicle of the Golden Age of the studio's monster chillers (and assorted "creepy" fare). The book was packed with anecdotes but I opted to pass on it at the time, hoping a new and improved edition would follow.
The wait was long but worth it, as McFarland has issued a gorgeous 2nd Edition of the original text, better packaged (with a full-color cover and a generous helping of archival photos) and revised and updated.
If you're a fan of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, or even Universal's Sherlock Holmes films, you can't do any better than to pick up this essential text, which is a steep $55 at Amazon but, ultimately, worth every penny for Universal horror fans...and the overall package is superior to the authors' inaugural 1990 effort.
